Hello Jonathan, I have just bought a Benotto frame, to restore and add to the collection of Italian bikes. Reading your step-by-step determination of the type of Benotto, I think it is a pre-80’s 2500 model, considering the chain-stays, the seat tube diameter and the rear derailleur cable guide. However the frame does have the Campagnolo drop-outs. Did you ever come across this? Looking forward to you reply and many thanks in advance! Best, Kees.

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Kees, yes sounds like you’re on the right track. A 2500 model.

  2. Maurice says:

Hello Jonathan, I was left a Benotto bike after my father passed away, and have been trying to find out what model I have but to no avail. Everything on the bike is campy and the cables run internally through the frame, I also have the following number stamped on the bottom of the frame at the crank. The number is B34118. I have an idea of when the bike was purchased but can only give a range of maybe 76-81 or 82. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Maurice

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Maurice, the internal routing and age of the bike sounds like a Benotto Cromor.

  3. Ruud Kempers says:

    Hi Jonathan.

My name is Ruud Kempers from The Netherlands and I’m on a quest regarding a Benotto I just bought. Can you tell whaat type of Benotto is in de hands of the little girl in the brochure? The one with the open lugs colored with blue probably?

Hope you can help me out?
    Thanks!
    Ruud Kempers

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Ruud, that’s a Benotto 2000. Great bike, great model.

    Greetings Jonathan,
I’m in need of your assistance (email) in tracking down information regarding a Benotto frame/fork that was given to me by my uncle (in mid ‘90’s) as he did not like the paint color his brother had commissioned. There are different identifying markers that I can’t seem to track down.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Roberto, can you post a link to picture of the bike? All the best

        Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your answer and reminders. There is no way to send you picture by this form communication system. For shure, you have got my email adress. Then can you send me an e-mail. I will send you pictures of my Benetto bike.

        Best regards
        Pierre

Hi Jonathan, I have bought, few years ago now, a Benetto bike. Looking your web site this bike seem’s to be a pre 1981 bike because the derailleurs cables guides are weld above the bottom bracket shell. It will be nice for me to send you some pics of this bike but need your email adress for that. Thanks for your answer. Pierre

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Pierre, very cool. Will reach out

  6. Jorge says:

  7. Jack priojssers says:

    Hi jonathan

    I gave two benottos

    800 and 2500 ex
Any idea what ex means and is their a source where i can check frame numbers

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Did it have Shimano EX components? I believe it may be related to the type of componentry that came with your bike. As for a source for frame numbers? I’m not sure if there is a reliable place for Benottos.

  8. Stephen Waring says:

Gday jonathon.thank u for all the info on bennotto bikes.i have just bought one with serial nos dn38713n and95301 just below it.it has no rear derailleur hanger or cable guides so i think its a track model.its seatpost 26.0 i rekon i may have bought a fakey maybe

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Stephen, yes it’s likely a track bike if it doesn’t have the rear derailleur hanger or cable guides. Is the bike’s paint original or repainted? Some Benotto bikes have been retrofitted into single speeds because their geometry lines up so well.

The 26mm seat post opening is throwing it off. It should be at least 26.4mm. Or perhaps a different kind of steel was used, but that’s unlikely.

  9. Willem says:

    Hi Jonathan,

I Have a benotto with a serail number: A986422. Any Idea how I can figure out where and when it was made?

  10. Eddie says:

I have just been given a benotto modello ‘Milano San Remo’ but can’t find this model anywhere. What year is it? Is it 800 or what? Hope you can help.

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi Eddie, do you have some photos of your bike you could share? It would make it easier to identify it. What are the shapes of the chain stays? Roger DeVlaeminck won Milan San Remo riding a Benotto in ’78. They likely made a model to celebrate that win.

  11. John Fleming says:

I bought my Benotto while station in Wiesbaden AB, Germany in or about 1973. I still have it today. Haven’t ridden it in over 25 years. If I get the chance I will sent you a photograph.

    1. Jonathan Whiting says:

Hi John, that would be great. I will send you an email. Cheers

    2. Jean-Paul says:

      Hi,

@John: would like to have a photo too.
      @Jonathan: Thanks for sharing

      Regards

      Jean-Paul
